I led ASTHO's legislative tracking work to identify legislation and regulation impacting state and territorial legislation public health departments and facilitated a peer network of legislative liaisons to share best practices to advance legal and policy solutions to address public health priorities. I provided in depth legal and policy research and analysis to ASTHO program teams for issues related to tobacco prevention and control, substance abuse and misuse, sexual violence prevention, maternal child health, and environmental health.

I reviewed the municipal code to determine the legal roles and responsibilities of the health department. I also made recommendations for future legislative efforts and collaborated with the Center for Disease Control's Public Health Law Policy Center to create an action plan. This work became the basis of a presentation at the 2012 conference for the National Association of City and County Health Officials.

New Orleans, La

I worked with clients and staff attorneys to resolve legal issues associated with healthcare. I worked with hospitals and collection agencies to develop repayment plans for medical debt issues. I also developed an advocacy strategy to leverage changes in the tax code into greater provision of charity care by non-profit hospitals in Louisiana.

Nyyazow, Turkmenistan

I worked in a rural village in Turkmenistan teaching preventative health. I worked primarily with pregnant women and women of reproductive age. I ran clubs, trainings, and workshops. I co-authored a bi-lingual training manual and lesson plan book for future volunteers and their Turkmen counterparts.

Nairobi, Kenya

I ushered a curriculum of community based health materials for Pact's WORTH microsavings and literacy program from conceptualization to pre-testing in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. These materials are currently being used with WORTH groups in Kenya, Tanzania, and Myanmar.
