Profile bio

About Kenia Wiedemann

I’m a research project manager and a research associate at Concord Consortium in Concord, MA. I believe that scientists must engage in science outreach programs and actively participate in public debates about science and technology. I have participated in several projects that required a good load of public outreach and group management skills. I earned a Master's degree (2005) and a Ph.D. (2009) in physics from the University of Sao Paulo (USP, Brazil) in the field of nuclear physics. During my graduate years, I worked as a lecturer at the Institute of Physics at USP and had the opportunity to teach several courses in physics to students majoring in physics, meteorology, astronomy, oceanography, and engineering. The interdisciplinary experience that characterized those years led me to a transition in my own career in physical sciences. After graduating in nuclear physics, I decided to invest my skills in a more applied field, environmental sciences, which is my current field of research. Immediately after graduation, I became a post-doc fellow in atmospheric sciences at the University of Sao Paulo, studying the physical properties of atmospheric aerosols. In 2011 I moved to the U.S. as a post-doc research associate in a joint program between Harvard and the University of Arizona, sharing my time between the two institutions. In 2013 I became a full-time research associate at Harvard, focusing on tropical forests' atmospheric chemistry and physics.I’m always interested in hearing from former colleagues, advisers, or just creative folks, so please feel free to contact me if you’d like to connect.

Listed skills include Science, Statistics, Programming, Data Analysis, and 23 others.

I am currently conducting research in biosphere-atmospheric gas exchange in tropical forests. My focus is in carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, ozone and nitrogen oxides (in addition to important forcing quantities, such as solar radiation, precipitation, and temperature). I am the responsible person for site maintenance, data acquisition and qaqc, and I have been working close to my colleagues in Harvard to process short and long term datasets to unravel the role played by tropical forests in the global climate (and vice versa).I also co-advise two local graduate students - in physics and atmospheric sciences - of the University of Western Para (UFOPA, PA, Brazil).

Person responsible for configuration, testing, and installation of new components of the observing system; ongoing monitoring to maintain overall system performance at a highlevel, and data acquisition and processing.-- Science. . Creative interpretation of data in the context of knowledge about the basic science. Analysis of eddy flux measurements, remote sensing, and carbon cycle modeling.-- Outreach . Keeping lines of communication and coordination going among the different components of the scientific research, and especially between U.S. and Brazilian team members.
