Antara Health scales patient-centered health care for everyone by adding AI-assisted health navigation to make the hard parts of healthcare easy for patients and providers. Acquired by SS&C (SSNC)Captricity is an AI that reads any text, including cursive handwriting, better than people can. The idea for Captricity came from my graduate research in rural health clinics in Uganda and Tanzania. There, I helped find patients “lost” to HIV treatment, and helped community health workers to count danger signs -- both tasks were mired in paper forms. Being a data guy, I saw that the problem wasn't paper, but access and usage of data. From that perspective, we built Shreddr, a data-driven, crowd-guided machine learning engine that reads handwriting. Our hypothesis was that order of magnitude better data extraction would mean better analysis, efficiency and knowledge in organizations and industries that span the spectrum from healthcare and government to logistics and operations.Captricity has grown beyond these early roots into an enterprise-class, cloud-based data capture platform that serves customers in a wide range of industries worldwide. While our technology has evolved, our larger goal has remained the same: Our mission is to democratize data access for organizations that serve everyone.

My research focuses on data management systems that help low-resource organizations and people in the developing world. I spent time in East Africa improving local practices in data collection, data quality, information integration and analytics.

Fun summers at Google; first with the open source group on map/reduce education, then again with the structured data group working on data integration for low resource organizations.

When my undergraduate research project became a company, I joined my wonderful undergrad research advisor there. We made computational workflow software for drug discovery laboratories. I had many roles: coder, sales engineer, consultant, project manager; notably, I led the first (and only) multi-continent implementation of Teranode software -- a distributed chemical analysis and purification workflow automation system. AFAIK, it still runs the small molecule discovery loop across three continents for a big pharma.
