I am currently owner and President of Purity Laboratories, Inc. (Purity), in Lake Oswego, Oregon.Purity is a unique, high-complexity lab that offers both environmental and clinical analyses. Our environmental division specializes in laboratory testing for the food, dietary supplement and hemp industries. Our clinical division operates in the unique are of non-invasive clinical laboratory testing, which Bill Gates was quoted in Wired magazine as being "the future of health care". My work for the last 15 years has centered on the environmental effects of the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat and its affects on human health. Until recently, my husband, Dave Humphrey, owned Kirkman Group, Inc.(Kirkman), a manufacturer of dietary supplements that specialized in formulating supplements for individuals with special needs. I worked as executive vice president of Kirkman from 2007 to July 2019 when we sold the company. In 2011, my husband and I bought Purity Laboratories, Inc., a 40+ year old laboratory in Portland, Oregon, primarily to offer advanced lab tests on Kirkman's supplments. We pioneered a purity standard in testing dietary supplements second to none by testing Kirkman's more than 950 toxins.In human health, laboratory testing has been the backbone of diagnosing disease but many of our customers, who were children with special needs, did not easily tolerate invasive blood tests. In 2013, we offered our first non-invasive, clinical blood test. Currently, we are in partnership with scientists who have developed most of the non-invasive clinical tests (including blood, urine and saliva) to bring a full range of non-invasive clinical testing to market.I started my career as a journalist, working at major newspapers and television stations in Hawaii and Oregon. The first company I founded was Hawaiiana Products that sold fragrance and toiletries, which successfully sold to General Atlantic Corporation, a major shareholder of Duty Free, after only 10 months in the marketplace. I also founded Maui Gold, Inc., which became the largest jewelry company in Hawaii. It sold to General Atlantic, the major shareholder of Duty Free at the time. It was also on Inc.'s list of fastest growing companies for 4 years.I graduated from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon with degrees in Journalism and English Literature.
