As a RedX Engineer at General Motors, I gained my apprenticeship in the RedX process while working on two critical projects. The projects I worked on had a direct impact on the Hummer EV, Corvette, and HD trucks. Additionally, during my rotation with RedX, I volunteered for a special assignment to launch the first few Brightdrop delivery vans. This involved working on the temporary assembly line and addressing any issues that arose to ensure smooth builds for engineers and customers.

As the Chassis Active Thermal Management Issue Resolution Tracker (CATM IRT), I oversaw and managed three programs - the Blackwing sedans, Silverado, and Bolt EVs. Acting as the point contact between engineering and manufacturing teams, I successfully resolved CATM specific issues by leading regular IRT meetings, which helped track and push issues to closure. My work contributed to the successful launch of the Cadillac CT4/5-V Blackwing performance models, Bolt EV and EUV, as well as the Silverado. Notably, for the Blackwing program, I closed 25+ open chassis issues before the start of production, ultimately helping to deliver the best products to our customers.

As a Noise and Vibration Harshness (NVH) Performance Engineer, I coordinated buyoff rides, managed retrofits of a fleet, and addressed NVH issues on the Buick Envision. I used 4-Post machines and physical testing roads on Milford Proving Grounds to identify the root cause of NVH issues and worked with garage technicians and design release engineers to create engineering solutions. I also led development validation leadership meetings with GM senior leaders, ensuring meetings ran on time, focused on issues, and summarized meeting minutes. As a result, I helped deliver a product that met customer expectations. Through this experience, I learned how to build a "vehicle sense" for NVH issues, understand how vehicle subsystems interact, and how issues are discussed, resolved, and tracked during leadership meetings.

As a Chassis Active Thermal Management (CATM) Validation Engineer, I owned the validation of suspension components on light duty trucks. I communicated the results to the program team and worked with the design release engineers and suppliers to ensure component level testing was on time and met requirements. I closed 11 open CATM issues by communicating with various teams and helped sign off validation of the Multimatic suspension components that go into the Chevrolet Silverado ZR2. Through this work, I gained an understanding of test failures, how to adapt and update components efficiently, and a fundamental knowledge of modern vehicle CATM assembly.

Japan is known for its advanced technology and innovative engineering practices, so being able to study and learn from Japanese experts in the field was a unique and valuable experience. I also got to experience the amazing Japanese culture and learned enough of the language to navigate around the country.

As a C&D Roadwarrior, I conducted various static and dynamic attribute testing (cargo volume, visibility measurements, fuel economy etc.) for the magazine’s buyers guide section. I assisted with photo shoots, instrumented testing, and coordination of vehicles for the editorial staff. Thought this job, I gained a deep understanding of the current automotive industry landscape, specifically how different manufacturers prioritize different elements in their vehicles.

As a Road Load Data Acquisition (RLDA) Engineer, I redesigned the way work was requested from our group. I used a system's engineering approach, which involved creating a use case, context diagram, and stakeholder matrix to outline the project and generate system specifications. The updated request form met all system specs and interface constraints and received positive feedback from primary stakeholders and validation engineers. Through this project, I applied my systems engineering and design lessons to real-world situations and gained knowledge about the validation segment of the global vehicle development plan at GM.

As a Durability Test Engineer, I was responsible for managing a fleet of Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles that were driven by professional drivers around the clock to test their endurance. My role involved verifying and reporting any issues, and working with design release engineers and suppliers to resolve them. I also wrote end-of-test reports for each vehicle, which were shared with senior management. During my tenure, I identified and resolved over 50 issues. This experience taught me about the interactions between subsystems in automobiles, the importance of designing with the whole system in mind, and effective communication and organizational skills.

In response to a request from Supply Operations and Assembly Plants to improve assembly plant issue communication, I updated a small and unfriendly database, making it easier for program release leads (PRLs) to input issue information, and developed key metrics that could be outputted by the database. Using data collected from a survey I created, I was able to remove unnecessary field entries, organize the entry form, and add auto-filling features. The survey data also guided me in organizing the database to show pertinent information first. As a result, I reduced the time needed to input issues, eliminated the need to slide around the database during global meetings, and developed automated graphic figures fed directly from the database.

Researched powertrain strategies that large automobile manufactures will use to reach the high CAFE standard set by the United States government. Bruce Belzowski, and I, worked together to create a survey which asked industry experts, automotive engineers, and suppliers which technologies are at the forefront for the future. We showcase the results of the survey at annual Automotive conference.
