I was a Criminal Solicitor in the Crown Court Department dealing with substantially serious offences. I was also one of the firm's Magistrates' Court advocates. I dealt with dishonesty offences, sexual offences and violent offences, often with unusual or complex points of law. I also handled caseloads involving serious fraud and confiscation matters arising from offences such as tax evasion, importation / supply of drugs, and human trafficking. I also attended police stations to represent clients in custody.

I currently work in the Criminal Litigation Department where I deal with a broad range of criminal matters; from road traffic offences to more serious frauds, violent, and sexual offences. I take on matters from the private sector as well as publicly funded matters. I conduct some matters at the Magistrates' Courts, and I am an accredited police station representative. I have dealt with cases involving speeding, and other driving related offences. I have also dealt with offences such as theft, fraud, cruelty to children, sexual assaults and rape, as well as murder. I also deal with confiscation proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. I also work on Civil Litigation matters from the private sector. The type of work I do in this area can vary between cases; from the simple aspects such as drafting contracts and agreements, debt collection and enforcement, to the more complex claims and defences for court proceedings. I have previously drafted partnership agreements between GPs to establish their practices in line with the NHS PCT policies. I have acted for clients who have had boundary disputes with their neighbours, and I have enforced debts for and against individuals and companies alike. I have also conducted a number of hearings at various venues such as the Magistrates' Court, the County Court and the Coroners' Court.

I was a trainee solicitor at S. Satha & Co Solicitors working in the criminal litigation department. I also dealt with civil litigation, family and personal injury work, however the majority of my time was spent in the criminal department.The types of matters that I would deal with were small road traffic strict liability offences such as speeding and driving without insurance, to assaults, robbery, extradition, high value fraud and murder. I have also had hands-on experience dealing with complex sexual related offences and complicated confiscation matters. Within the realm of civil litigation, I dealt with all matters such as drafting of contracts to breach of contracts, negotiating and drafting international company agreements, as well as personal injury and clinical negligence cases. I have also dealt with matters regarding trade marks, company formation and media / privacy law. In the majority of these civil cases I conducted my own advocacy.

I conducted a variety of different cases in various remits of the law; ranging from debt claims to complex multi-jurisdictional family matters. I also conducted my own advocacy in a number of cases, with one of the most memorable one being in front of a Lord-Justice. I dealt with some criminal law matters, and started learning about prison law and the prison law adjudication system. I have also drafted a variety of legal documents, such as agreements between parties, witness statements, statements of case, and court agreements. I have also undertaken various methods of ADR to achieve adequate settlements, without incurring high costs compared to litigation, and without breaking the commercial relationship between parties.

My responsibilities and tasks included: • The preparation of trial balances, balance sheets, profit and loss accounts. • Reconciliation of client wages and salaries, settlement of PAYE and NIC on a monthly basis, raising and filing of P45, P60 and other work-related documents in respect of a clients’ employees.• Preparation of personal and company tax returns.• I was a pivotal figure in the disposal of the company as a going concern in 2008.
