Having graduated university and obtained a Masters in Intellectual Property, my background and interest had previously been in Civil Litigation, however since March 2011 my main focus has been in Criminal Litigation. I started my journey as a trainee solicitor in 2011 and then qualified as a solicitor in April 2013, focusing the majority of my attention on criminal defence dealing with matters ranging from road traffic offences, multi-handed frauds and murder. I had represented clients at the police station and at Court. In January 2016 I joined the Crown Prosecution Service as a Crown Prosecutor, working as an advocate in the Magistrates' Court Unit. I was preparing lists, doing case management hearings as well as taking conduct of trials, often involving complicated matters of law and in some instances high profile cases which had received media attention. In January 2017 I was made a Senior Crown Prosecutor, continuing the same type of work as before however with further responsibilities such as additional decision-making powers and mentoring new colleagues. In January 2018 I joined the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit (RASSO), dealing with complex sexual offences ranging from possession of indecent images of children, rape/attempted rape/non-recent offences, elaborate conditional consent cases, and other serious sexual offences. The cases I have dealt with have had significant media interest. As such I regularly provide sound advice to the Police and manage the expectations of stakeholders including victims and witnesses of crime. I also prepare those cases for trial and devise strategies for case presentation.
