I was an Engineering Manager on the Facebook Live Video team, focused on how to make Live Videos & Watch Parties easy, safe, and fun to create and watch. I led a team of engineers across iOS, Android, and Backend across iterative growth, new feature development, and infrastructural improvements to video creation and playback. Notable projects include:- Live With: A way to co-broadcast Live Videos, utilizing an RTC call synchronized between clients within a Live Stream session- Live Live Sync: Facebook's first major Music product, allowing users to select a song to sing along with- Watch Party Commentating: A way to commentate on videos in a watch party, fully synchronized with comments & video playback- Friends Watching With You: A rearchitecture of how we store and query friends watching a Live Stream with you, focused on fan out on videos with millions of viewers.

Live Video (Full Stack Tech Lead, Founding Team Member): Built and refined a variety of features to make watching Live Videos more social. Projects include:- Chat With Friends: Led cross-platform architecture & development across 5 senior engineers to enable synchronized messenger conversations while watching Live Videos.- Notifications: Architected and implemented a scalable system design to enable sending 100's of millions of notifications within seconds for Live Videos. Required substantial pre-computation and delivery fan-out to avoid hot shards for popular creators (primary inventor of patent for this work)Messenger Growth (Full Stack Tech Lead): Led a full stack team to drive the app’s usage and retention through a variety of features including Notifications, the Home Tab Redesign, and Account Switching. Received patents for work on retention/reachability-based ranking, re-engagement notifications, and multi-account supportFacebook Mentions App (Backend and iOS Engineer): Built out a mobile app for public figures to connect with fans, used by many high profile celebrities to create content on Facebook and Instagram.
