I'm a graduate researcher working to better understand the reasons why people engage in online shaming (i.e., the behaviour of calling out someone on social media). My PhD research approaches online shaming from a psychological perspective, and understands that the phenomenon can occur at an individual level as well as at a group level. The topic is important because although online shaming has attracted widespread discussion and media attention, there is no agreement on what online shaming is, or why people choose to engage in shaming. My research can also provide insights to understand what drives people's behaviour on social media in general, especially their interactions with others. I'm in the final year of my PhD (currently part-time, submission anticipated June-2024). I also work as a Research Assistant and a Teaching Assistant at Flinders University. My PhD training involves statistical data analysis (using R and SPSS), experimental design, and research communication. Currently, I'm seeking opportunities that will allow me to apply a social psychological, data-driven perspective to solve problems regarding human attitudes and behaviour.
