Kunyi Mangalam, Principal of Square Rainbow has been helping organizations and teams understand and empathize with the people they want to connect with and support for 30 years, whether they be customers, employees, stakeholders, citizens, or new audiences. By looking at the world through their eyes, different perspectives are revealed, assumptions uncovered, and new connections made. Strategically overlaying these three lenses yields insight. She has interviewed kids, teens, tycoons, and every-day, ordinary people. She has interviewed people in groups, and individually, in person, supported by mobile and internet technologies, using methods and techniques that help them express what is true for them. While she has worked in a rich variety of industries and applications, there is one thing core to all her work: finding the insight to help clients and organizations progress, whether that’s making a decision between several tactics based on user feedback, conducting facilitated discovery sessions with stakeholders, using research to develop strategy, or helping refine a strategy. Providing insight to make decisions and create something better (a more powerful message, a more useful product, a less friction-filled user experience) is what Square Rainbow’s qualitative research offers. She has worked as an independent consultant, for national agencies, as the founder of a boutique strategic qualitative practice. Clients include government and for-profit organizations, in a variety of industries: tourism & travel; consumer technology; gaming & entertainment; finance & insurance; energy; professional services; health & wellness. Clients work with Square Rainbow for two reasons: they use qualitative research to develop empathy with ‘their people’, either to reveal and clarify opportunities, or to make better decisions in developing, implementing, or designing. The former falls into problem space research; the latter approach falls into solution-space research.
