He continued his career with Chevron Corporation in Houston and Midland, TX after the merger with Gulf Oil. At Chevron, Mr. Cox expanded his expertise into the Permian Basin, bringing his knowledge of deep structures and clastics to bear. It was at this time that he also earned an in-house degree in Geophysics. After 16 rewarding years Mr. Cox left Chevron in 1997 to start Storm Energy. Storm Energy was established with the acquisition of interests in Texas and Louisiana salt domes and subsequent successful drilling programs. Mr. Cox continues to evaluate acquisition and exploration projects to maintain a robust production portfolio for Storm Energy. His areas of technical expertise include:- Structural interpretation of complexly-faulted salt domes- Clastic stratigraphy of the Gulf Coast Basin and Permian Basin- Identification and quantification of bypassed pay with a specialty in mud log and DST analysis.- Field research in high-altitude and high-latitude environments (Himalayas, Antarctica)Mr. Cox is currently a member of AAPG, the AAPG Foundation, WTGS, WTGS Foundation, and a former member of SIPES, SPE, PBGS and the Geological Sciences Advisory Board of the University of Alabama.
