Southern Utah University has been my second home since 2001, and I have served the students, faculty, and staff in a variety of capacities over the years. As a tenured Associate Professor of English, I have taught British Literature, with a specialization in the Victorian period, and served as English Department Chair. Since 2010, I have been the Director of Learning Abroad. Under my leadership, SUU's study abroad, exchange, and other international programs have grown at a steady pace. I have directed or co-directed over a dozen short-term study abroad programs, and I was a member of the team that built SUU's award-winning experiential learning program called EDGE - Education Designed to Give Experience. I am also the Executive Director of the American Studies Center at Northwest University in Xi'an, China, and was the founding Editor-in-Chief of Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education: A Journal for Engaged Educators.

Director Of Learning AbroadSouthern Utah University Jul 2010 - PresentAt the age of 18, I was an exchange student to Geneva, Switzerland. To quote the cliche, "Study abroad changed my life." In 2008, I began taking English Literature students to London to enhance their understanding and appreciation of the works of Woolf, Dickens, Wilde, Austen, and others; in recent years, I've helped build and run programs taking Political Science and other students to seven other countries. In my role as Director of Learning Abroad, I have applied for and been awarded grants and fellowships; negotiated partnerships with other universities; mentored colleagues who needed guidance in building study abroad programs and applying for teaching and research fellowships; and developed new programs affording study abroad opportunities to more students.
