In this role, I was the inital designer of the “Free to Choose Medicine Campaign" focused on reforming FDA drug approval process to allow for earlier patient access to experimental drugs and treatments. My key accomplishments included: Designing and executing the campaign to influence and encourage the FDA to reinitiate the Dual Track Process, formerly used during the AIDS crisis, to accelerate manufacturing and approval for Alzheimer’s drugs. Creating a Six Step Plan for enactment of “Free to Choose Medicine,” an FDA Reform Proposal developed by Bartley Madden, businessman, author, and Heartland donor.

As Director, I assisted in finalizing the legislative referendum, consulting with legislators and council members, as well as representatives of community groups and organizations. I planned and conducted extensive advocacy and outreach to grow organizational support, and supervised media outreach and social networking activities for campaigns and community projects.

In this role I led daily operations of the office with a team of 64 staff members. I managed real estate properties assessments for commercial properties and residences, as well as manage all requests for public records. I also developed my management team, hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring them for performance excellence. My key accomplishments included: Successfully designing and implementing a modern online system for filing business tax returns and property assessment appeals. I led the full life cycle of the project, clarifying and documenting business requirements, developing and executing RFP, and identifying qualified vendors. I managed the project to completion and brought the project in at 35% less than projected. Handling all external communications, including media and social media engagement, educational brochures, whitepapers, and constituent mailings. Jackson, Mississippi Area

I was hired to drive results for federal abd state government affairs and all applicable legislative issues on behalf AARP members. I advocated for people, aged 50 and older, implementing national agenda items at the state level. My accomplishments included: Successfully lobbied the Mississippi Division of Medicaid and Mississippi State Legislature to reallocate $16M in Medicaid Long-Term Care funding to Home and Community-based Waiver Services, allowing more Mississippi seniors to remain in their homes instead of more costly institutional placement. I saved the state tens of millions of dollars and improved health care satisfaction for Medicaid patients. I served as advisor and subject matter expert (SME) on legislative issues impacting senior citizens and delivered presentations on issues, including social security. I also initiated forums to allow for discussions with state legislative and executive office branch candidates. I forged and fostered relationships between the organization and state and federal legislative officials, expanding connections and re-engaging AARP Mississippi with Republican members of Mississippi Congressional Delegation, the Mississippi Governor’s Office, and the Mississippi Legislature

In my role, my charge was to lead government and media relations, employee communications and member services. I executed initiatives to strengthen the position and viability of the co-operative and collaborated with key stakeholders in local government to identify and secure opportunities to expand the power distribution grid. My accomplishments included:  Leading lobbying and grassroots campaigns and defeating efforts to pass Cap and Trade legislation in Congress. Developing a policy for same-day response to inquiries and improvement of relationships with PSC and state legislature. Designing and executing a media relations plan for weather emergencies to improve communicating live calls and status updates to the public through local radio stations. In order to discuss restoration issues and timelines for resolution. Desuign and manage all employee communications and serve as Editor for monthly newspaper.

I assumed a key leadership role at LATAN, a nonprofit organization dedicated to administering federal grant funds for assistive technology. My goal was to secure appropriations in order to continue and expand statewide programs for persons with disabilities. Through lobbying, written, and oral testimony, I secured $900,000 in first time state funding to expand programs for Louisianans with disabilities. I also led a successful effort in the U.S. Congress, against White House opposition, to restore funding for the Assistive Technology Act, and secured an additional $4 million in annual funding.

As a Field Manager, I developed and managed multi-state grassroots campaigns for The Business Roundtable, a multi-million dollar account. I managed contract lobbyists and drafted earned media, leave behinds, press releases and white papers. I served as primary point of client contact responsible for Weekly Progress Supports.I drafted contracts for lobbyists and grassroots advocacy managers and was responsible for communicating with them and supervising their work product and deliverables.
