MGIC invented the modern mortgage insurance industry in 1957.The position of Chief Human Resources Officer reported to the CEO and was responsible for all Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Talent Relations, Talent Management, Succession Planning, Training and Development, Payroll and Corporate Communication. Executive Compensation and Board of Directors responsibilities were typical for that of a publicly held company including regular participation with the Compensation and Governance Committee and on an as needed basis with the Securities Investment Committee relative to employee retirement and savings benefits matters. MGIC was awarded the Top 100 Places to Work in Southeastern Wisconsin ten consecutive years and the National Sloan Award for Workplace Flexibility five times. Additionally, MGIC has been awarded the Well Workplace Award from WELCOA every year since 2009 and twice at the Platinum level, representing a strong commitment to employee Wellness. Provided HR consulting services including serving as a virtual HR Manager, base compensation program design, sales compensation plan design, executive compensation plan design, human resource audits, executive search and general HR projects. Additionally, co-founded an HR consortium of practitioners that provided a ready source of experts to collaborate on projects for clients.Employed as a Group Chairperson for Executive Agenda 1998 to 2001 in addition to the consulting practice. EA is a regional organization that establishes working "personal board of directors" groups for executives at the vice president level.

Strong Investments was a mutual fund investment management firm. Was hired to build a Human Resources Department from the ground up. This position had full responsibility for all facets of HR including compensation, benefits, employee relations, employment, and training and development. Also reporting to Human Resources was Client Communication, Word Processing, and Administration. Reported to the CEO and served on the Operating Committee and as Corporate Staff Committee co-chairperson. Major accomplishments included the establishment of the HR function, organizing off-site strategic planning sessions for the operating committee, working closely with Board members to shape the culture of the organization, designing and implementing firm-wide compensation and variable compensation plans for investment professionals and sales staff, directing management training and development needs analysis to establish programs, complete redesign and implementation of new benefits programs and communication, and participating in operating committee decisions that contributed to growing the firm from $3 billion to $15 billion in assets under management and to 700 employees from 150 in just under 3 years.
