I am a 5-12 certified ELA teacher who is working in the English department of the Arthur R. Gould School located in the Long Creek Youth Development Center. I work with students of varying educational, behavioral, and cultural backgrounds on a wide variety of reading and writing topics to help develop their skills in both written and oral communication for successful community reintegration.

As a student teacher, I am responsible for a full teacher's schedule and I am able to teach students in accordance with standards aligned by both the state and school. My mentor and I follow the workshop model in our classroom and we switch on and off for lead teacher. We use the workshop model in our 10th grade humanities classes, but I act as the lead teacher for both the AP language/ composition and literature class as well as the credit recovery class. I teach almost exclusively sophomore English classes, with the exception of one class of AP seniors.

As a Peer Advisor, it is my job to help guide new students who are entering the Secondary English Education program here at the University of Maine Farmington (UMF). I meet with both students and professors to help create a schedule for each student each semester that will allow the student to enroll in the classes that they need to take in order to progress through the rigorous education program here at UMF.

As a Community Assistant (CA), I helped to make the transition to college smooth for both incoming and returning residents. I worked alongside other CAs and fellow Residence Life staff to hold programs that spanned from social and emotional in content to financial and spiritual; programming is needs based and we catered to what the students wanted to see within a wide range of categories. I also acted as a walking resource for students on campus.
