Kurt Bramfitt – BA (hons) started his career as a freelance product designer with a background in Industrial and Transportation design. He then went on to spend 12 years working across health and social care and the third sector specialising in operational management gaining experience and understanding of healthcare systems. In 2012 Kurt joined the NHS and began working for Salford Royal where he became affiliated with the NHS Safety Thermometer, a measurement tool for improvement used capture the burden of harm (pressures ulcers, falls, UTI (in patients with a catheter) & VTE) to patients across the NHS. He also lead the development and testing of four additional Safety Thermometer which are now used by over 200 trusts across the NHS and are specific to the measuring of harm within, Mental Health, Maternity and Children and Young people’s services as well as harm from Medications errors. In 2014 Kurt went on to spend a year studying with the IHI (institute for healthcare improvement) in Boston, USA where he developed his skill and knowledge in improvement science methodology. As the senior improvement advisor at Haelo Kurt led the measurement and capability team who work across a multitude of local and national collaborative programmes providing advice on measurement and improvement science methods to build capability in teams to support and facilitate positive improvement outcomes. Kurt was also the course director and teaching faculty for an improvement science course run by Haelo called, IS4L (improvement science for leaders) which was designed to build improvement capability in health care leaders and academics who play key roles within our healthcare systems.
