Ageing Mechanisms and Procedures for Automotive Catalysts.This project involves high temperature testing of automotive catalysts to determine the degradation of catalyst performance, commonly known as catalyst ageing. This ageing process is not well understood and so simple empirical relationships are used to estimate the lifespan. This project investigated experimentally the main parameters effecting catalyst ageing and quantify the ageing process. A new set of algorithms was developed based on current ageing equations but extended to cover additional ageing factors.

A 12 week summer placement working in the Cost Reduction department.Daily tasks include detailed BOM analysis to determine cost discrepancies and small design changes using Creo.Projects include detailed analysis on certain parts to determine extreme prices and find a solution to reduce these costs. Working closely with customers and suppliers to ensure customer satisfaction while maintaining good working relationships with the supplier.Engineering in schools - includes giving plant tours, presenting engineering topics and being a mentor throughout a design and build task.

I spent my year out on industrial placement working within Schlumberger on different projects.I was heavily involved, and team leader, in a LSS project. I worked a detailed project on new product development determining areas of improvement and understanding unknown factors.Day to day jobs included designing different parts on ProE and uploading them to the online archive, taking part in problem solving and 5Y meetings.

India

Spent a total of 4 weeks in India on a student exchange program. This included 2 weeks of Finite Element Analysis (Femap Software), Mechatronics and Pneumatics. A further 2 weeks were spent on technical and cultural visits. A presentation was given to Indian railways board at the headquarters in Dehli.
