My passion is to serve and equip others in diverse and difficult contexts for mission-driven organizations that seek to transform lives and communities. Growing up in Asia and Africa, my life experience spans the globe. Early in my career, I worked with international faith-based missions. After Hurricane Katrina, I ran large-scale volunteer relief operations and launched a successful advancement department in New Orleans. Then, my family moved to Peru where we served as human-rights advocates among abused and trafficked women and children. When we returned to the United States, I directed community development projects in South Minneapolis, coached nonprofit leaders, raised major gifts for Bethany International, directed a state-wide network for Joni and Friends, and taught as an Adjunct Professor for several universities.A Proven Track Record:➤Award-winning disaster volunteer management and housing rehabilitation - directing, training, and facilitating 100+ volunteers each week for three years after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana and across the Gulf Coast➤International experience for social impact - human rights advocacy, helping to launch a shelter for trafficking and sexual abuse victims in Peru➤Communications and sales - leading staff teams and departments in both global nonprofit organizations and regional for-profit ventures ➤Stakeholder relationships - collaborating and building productive cross-functional and working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders➤Client and partner development - securing business-to-business contracts in for-profit scenarios and developing major gift donors and grants for nonprofits➤Multiethnic community outreach - launching programs and coaching leaders in Asset-Based Community Development within diverse cultures of Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN➤College teaching and curriculum development - at Bethany Global University, Concordia University St. Paul and Concordia University Nebraska—CLIFTONSTRENGTHS 2.0Input (an inquisitive learner that looks to be in the know)Woo (wins others over, not intimidated by strangers)Strategic (quickly spots way forward in complex scenarios) Ideation (well-read, and thinks outside the box)Connectedness (links people and ideas from across the globe)—My personal values: human dignity - community - integrity - education - social responsibility - servant leadership - prayer - faith - family - global thought - local action - Asset-Based Community Development ... and playing with my grandson!__kurtisleonsmith@gmail.com763-607-3931
