Quite often these strategies use trusts and as a trust specialist, I can advise on the creation, running and breaking of trusts.Trusts can be used for handing down the family wealth whilst maintaining control, to defer capital gains tax and to pass income to lower rate taxpayers. There are bespoke IHT planning strategies for dealing with let property, children going to university or tax efficiently sheltering income in family investment companies.Another significant area of expertise is the drafting of complex tax efficient wills for clients where the circumstances require clear analysis and understanding of tax law.On the commercial side, I have advised clients on the tax effects of incorporating and demerging companies, employee share schemes and the setting up of Enterprise Investment Schemes for outside investment in new and existing companies. I also advise on the availability of Business and Agricultural Property Reliefs for IHT purposes.Many Solicitors will say they offer tax advice but few are actually qualified specifically in the field of tax.
