I'm an award-winning journalist and writer who accepted employment in retail as a bridge job after a layoff during the COVID-19 pandemic. While I've achieved promotions in retail, I'm searching for my next move and eager to return to my love of writing and communications.I rode the roller coaster of journalism through its many transitions while working for daily newspapers for 19 years. I've written thousands of articles on hundreds of topics during that time. Success in journalism relies on not only superior writing skills but in-demand skills like:- Interviewing- Identifying stories of interest- Creating content- Updating social media and tracking successMy writing earned several awards from the Associated Press Society of Ohio for news, feature, breaking, business and community service writing. My extensive coverage earned me recognition on the Ohio School Boards Association's Media Honor Roll. I switched to school public relations to follow my desire to become more involved with my community. Along with managing school communications, I supported several community organizations and served as director of communications of a statewide school public relations association. School communications helped me build my writing skills as I wrote promotional copy for the district. Meanwhile, freelance writing gave me a start in content creation as I crafted publicity kits, newsletter stories, consumer guide articles, press releases and marketing blurbs. My success in writing relied on my ability to diversity my skills while adopting a variety of styles. Such an ability is definitely in need today as artificial intelligence and other strides continue to change the landscape of content creation. I'm excited to talk to potential employers about how I could be a dependable member of their team.
