  • Omax Corporation
    Team Leader, Sustaining Engineering Group
    Omax Corporation Jan 2015 - Apr 2024
    Kent, Wa, Us
OMAX Corporation designs and manufactures abrasive water jet cutting systems. I joined OMAX as a Senior Mechanical Engineer and led the redesign of a newly introduced high-pressure pump to address manufacturability and user-access issues. I also helped design prototype pump units for new products. In 2017, I proposed and led the formation of a new Sustaining Engineering group at OMAX, which I led until leaving. The Sustaining team provides engineering support on legacy equipment, as well as equipment currently in production. The group is now reporting into a newly formed Sustaining Engineering group within our parent organization, Hypertherm Associates, which is patterned after the work we did at OMAX.
  • Herrenknecht Tunnelling Systems Usa, Inc.
    Project Engineer
Herrenknecht Tunnelling Systems Usa, Inc. Dec 2007 - Jan 2015
Herrenknecht Tunnelling Systems (HTS) is a subsidiary of Herrenknecht AG, based in Germany. Herrenknecht AG is a world leader in the design and manufacture of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). HTS provides engineering, spare parts, and service support for TBM projects in the US. In addition, HTS provided engineering support to the parent company on rebuilding and sustaining certain types of TBMs, regardless of project location.I worked on projects that involved improving and rebuilding 30-year old TBMs for subway projects in New York City. I was responsible for the design and detailing of new components for a used TBM, for mining a 45º incline tunnel for a hydroelectric project in Switzerland. I was also responsible for numerous modification programs for new and used TBMs including Project Management, Procurement, Manufacturing Scheduling, as well as Engineering and Drafting.
  • Fives Lund Llc
    Project Engineer
Fives Lund Llc Mar 2006 - Dec 2007
    Seattle, Washington, Us
Lund Engineering (now Fives Lund LLC, part of the Fives Group) is a contract engineering firm specializing in custom machine design. I was involved with R&D and design work for a prototype machine tool used in fabricating Boeing 787 carbon fiber components. Other projects included wafer handling equipment for the semiconductor industry, fish passage structures on Snake River dams, and refurbishment/enhancement work on rocket launch support equipment at Vandenberg AFB.While my actual tenure at Lund noted above was short, my experience with Lund's Principals was not. I was often loaned to Lund Engineering from time to time during my employment with Construction & Tunneling Service from 1995 to 2005. Due to the long-standing business relationship between the owners of both companies, resources between companies were often shared to even out workloads.
  • The Robbins Company
    Project Engineer
The Robbins Company Jan 2005 - Mar 2006
The Robbins Company designs and manufactures Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). My duties involved design work, stress analysis, checking and releasing of fabrication drawings, and supervision of contract engineering and drafting.I was also involved in an extensive Management Training Program during my time at Robbins from 1989 to 1992. This program followed a single TBM project over a two-year period that included working in purchasing, inventory control, manufacturing engineering, customer service, quality control, marketing, and operations/manufacturing. It culminated in the launch of the TBM at a remote jobsite in China, where I provided sustaining onsite support for three months.
  • Construction & Tunnelling Services, Inc.
    Senior Mechanical Engineer
Construction & Tunnelling Services, Inc. Mar 2000 - Jan 2005
Construction & Tunneling Services (CTS) was a small firm that specialized in the design and manufacture of underground excavation equipment. The company was eventually bought by Herrenknecht AG of Germany. My work included developing the initial concept from customer input, performing a complete structural stress analysis, detailing of the final design, supervision and checking of fabrication drawings, and problem resolution with fabrication shops during manufacture and assembly.Due to CTS’s small size, my duties often involved activities other than engineering. I was a Project Manager for smaller scale projects. I supervised onsite manufacturing and jobsite assembly. I provided customer service, both during machine startup and during operation. I was involved with the company’s successful ISO9001 certification program and was a certified internal auditor for our Quality System. I also developed and maintained our corporate website.
