Schmidt's Farm was established in 1999, and started as a dream and a small strawberry patch hatched by Kurt Schmidt Sr. Since its initial inception, the farm as it is today went through some drastic changes in growth and technology. After acquiring a nearby piece of property adjacent to our original homestead, the dream began to take shape. Over time we cleared out the location for the current farmland and farm stand, built a sizable pole barn to house our farm equipment, and planted perennial kiwis, blueberries, grapes and pawpaws. Things were not always easy though. I remember walking the field with my Dad pacing out how far to plant each seed, with a stick in hand to punch a hole in the ground to drop the seed in. Over time that process has changed a bit as we have moved to planting on raised plastic beds and use a much larger tractor, but the love of farming, continually learning and growing (pun intended) and forming new relationships with our customers has not.
