I'm an experienced engineering leader that splits my time between Oakland, California, USA and Gaborone, Botswana. I have a B.A. from Williams College with a double major in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. I also have a minor in Africana/Black studies with a focus on African literature and the Pan African Movement.In recent years I've developed a new interest and passion - building great teams, building great company cultures, helping people grow and realize their full potential. I am particularly excited by problems of scale. I love working for companies that also invest in improving the strength of their developers through hackathons, workshops, pair programming, peer reviews, conferences etc.My areas of interest include: Distributed Computing, Cybersecurity (especially SSL and TLS), Theory of Computation, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Programming Languages, and Operating Systems. I'm a huge fan of Test-Driven Development (TDD), pair programming, and Agile methodologies.I've increasingly become interested in crypto but I worry about some of its social and ecological implications. Right now most of the crypto space is being built by middle-class to wealthy, white men. My fear is that much like the early, and current, internet it is not being built with inclusivity in mind and we're going to see subspaces within crypto that are hostile or unsafe for women and people of color. Additionally, we need better validation mechanisms: most of the current proof of work consensus algorithms will not scale to the global ambitions of crypto.Other things I enjoy are overlanding & camping, video games, hiking, wildlife photography, cooking, motorcycles, reading and occasionally writing.
