My client is an ultra-high net worth (UHNW) clients oriented private bank, strategically oriented towards sustainable investments. Consequently, they built a strategic data group, for which I provided senior knowledge in data modeling and data management. My role was to re-evaluate their Semantic Modeling strategy based on PoolParty, as SKOS based tool to do Models/Taxonomies. I identified VocBench, a native OWL2 based widely used open-source tool as alternative and created a roadmap how to leverage FIBO (Financial Industry Business Ontology) in the bank's semantic modeling strategy.Based on my findings, I defined a simplified version of the TDM approach I developed for Business Records Management and generalized it for Data Management and Data Governance. I modeled the methodology with a clear conceptual framework and derived an Eclipse Modeling Framework based prototype allowing to work based on example for the glossary, TDM, and data dictionary parts of such data catalogs. The methodology was used for one possible variant to implement new 2023 data regulation from the local regulator.With this approach, I contributed to the detailed evaluation and proof of concept project for two data catalog tool vendors: Collibra and Dataspot. I showed how my approach can be implemented in Collibra by basically reflecting my meta-model with the Collibra built in OO no-code framework, and how in Dataspot my approach can be implemented out of the box as three connected models: one for the glossary, one for the TDM, the central entry point of the catalog, and one for each data dictionary.

I joined a migration project from a legacy time series DB and 4GL system to a python + BPMN with Camunda based implementation of the official European Central Bank. The project delivers the next generation implementation of the ECB Statistical Data Warehouse (https://sdw.ecb.europa.eu/)My role consisted of more detail level analysis of the source code, as preparation of the reimplementation by the Python and Camunda teams. The lhs := rhs rules in our part of the requirements exist in large numbers, and in at least 5 different syntactic ways. I worked towards abstracting from the “coding” of these "algorithms" towards a more structure, syntax independent way that would make the life of developers easier.The key was to connect the very formal data definitions with the old legacy source code, to formulate more logical requirements. I used the BPMN descriptions to analyze possible process improvements and interacted with various business groups how to better collaborate and reuse their solution approaches.As a result, I was able to transform large excel sheets that generate millions of time series updates from a few thousand rules, in a simple Python algorithm, that processes a table of rules, and a table of rule interpretation instructions. Like this, it became possible to continue maintenance of the few thousand rules and their business explanations, rather than having to maintain the millions of generated time series updates.

In the preparation for a large program in the Records Management area in 2019, I was in charge of the high-level analysis and the financial summary, a management tool covering the evaluation of the RfP responses, both commercially and content wise.Beside these main tasks, in 2019 I investigated the capability of Open Text Records Management and Cube Global RegTech products and validate whether the capabilities of the internal systems in those are can be mapped to the standard products.I introduced Semantic Modeling and UML Modeling to capture and document existing knowledge, mainly on the business and compliance side and I helped selecting an implementation partner that is leading in AI and Semantics Modeling based data analysis.After a break in 2020 I took over the role of the product owner in the data stream to define a target data model for the business records of all business groups of the bank.For my team of top level data-scientists I introduced an Excel based modeling approach, based on the open source project [veri.data] The approach combines conceptual data modeling, standardized naming and data types (data-management), and ideas from semantic modeling such as equal level treatment of objects and classes.

UBS drives client data confidentiality as one of their top priorities to better serve their clients. As a lead BA and IT coordinator I work for the program manager. My responsibilities are to consolidate on a program level the requirements that where managed project wise, until recently. Further I am responsible for the global change management process and for the dependencies and coordination with major programs such as WHITE, 1WMP, and the coordination with CTO and risk functions.The bank has created enabling components for all needed technical platforms, and the task is now to further promote and implement their usage, in order to achieve client data confidentiality conformance group wide.Due to the maturity of the program the focus is on optimizing and refining existing solutions, and to enhance coverage over various legal entities and application domains. The big challenge is to uncover under documented business functionality early, in order to avoid anything that could slow down the adoption of the program.

A group of about 100 business experts created the tendency to order data in various historically grown, and uncoordinated ways.Although the organization had no data warehouse infrastructure, in an attempt to overcome this situation, it was decided to build a datamart on top of SAP BO technology.The vision of the project was, that people joining this fast growing organisation from major Swiss banks will recognise the common banking concepts like account holder, business relationship management, various direct and indirect service models, as well as detailed information about holdings and transactions.In the absence of a business architecture, I had to provide a conceptual layer over the terminology, which was then used to create consistent, and easy to understand structures for the SAP BO business layer.I developed an Excel based method to describe the SAP BO structures, and keep them in synch between the various releases of the data mart, as well as different variants for Asia, Swiss, and European booking centres.To connect from the conceptual view to the physical layer, classical E/R modelling was used as a means of communication with the programmers.The resulting solution allowed for the first time to:• Compare analytical and MIS view on service models• Connect usefully Position and Transaction Data• Explain various asset classification systems in placeIn parallel I supported business management in setting up plans and structure for data management, introducing the concepts of data stewardship and data ownership.

Leading the business analysis of the implementation of the new Julius Baer investment approach, a new innovative approach to invest in a more fine granular set of asset subclasses, in order to react faster to the market, and reduce losses in difficult environments.The new approach had to be pushed through the IT systems and business side Excel and Access based processes, in order to align investment implementation effectively with the new approach, which brought among others a higher frequency of central investment decisions by the bank's CIO.My task was to work with the business project leader to create a solution taking into consideration:- available IT resources to adapt the Temenos AAA investment management system- input from the strategic investment management business process reengineering project, pre-dating the new investment approach- business side budget and time constraints due to parallel running initiatives to completely renovate the IT platform and to integrate a newly acquired bank.We used the same methodology as previously developed over the projects:- structured Excel sheet to capture the business analysis and manage complexity- business object and process models to agree on a common terminology and discuss issues system independent.In addition we developed a new way of smoothly migrate business groups from end user computing to managed application design. Instead of creating requirements and then develop an application, we evolutionarily improved the existing Access and Excel solutions, by separating the formatting aspects from the logical structures of the solutions.As a result, we were able to integrate the solutions of a number of business groups and to prepare the migration to an IT managed solutio. As a side effect, numerous business process improvement possibilities where detected, and if possible implemented.

Supporting a task force to build a business analysis group between the business stake holders on the demand side, and external vendors as well as internal IT and end user computing (Excel, Access, BO Universes) on the supply side. We are applying the methodology which evolved out of the experience in my consulting mandates at Swisslife, which was in the very same business domain, and the last two mandates at CS for Private Banking and Investment Banking. The new results shall be fed back into existing CS initiatives for business object modeling and business architecture, and be maintained by internal employees.The strategic focus of the organization has evolved from one complex off-shore product to a product family of products tailored to country specific compliance and tax rules. Leading a small team on consolidating and structuring the business know-how on interactive real-time trading of structured products for a broad class of private banking clients.The task is to use Business Object Modelling and Process Modelling where appropriate and create an "easy to maintain" and "easy to access" basis for transferring the know how between the different teams, and to identify issues ahead of development or even testing time.We created a Business Glossary Model of basic banking concepts. This model connects the varying business terminology for different asset classes and business areas (structuring/products, trading, accounting, marketing) in a consistent way. Then, this know-how is applied to consolidate the existing specifications of bookings and messages created by the business analysis team, trying to find inconsistencies, and to connect the detail specification with the conceptual views.Based on this work, we created a Business Operating Model capturing all operation checks. This covers the owner of manual and automated checks, the business as usual (BAU) actives to repair problems found as well as the cleanup responsibilities and escalation plans for real failure scenarios. 20 different stakeholder groups from two geographic locations had to be aligned, and a detailed review with operational risk has been done.As a last part of the mandate, the gained business knowledge is applied to help the engineering teams (requirements, software, and test) to manage the huge amount of data fields in interfaces to various existing front and back office systems on the floor and in the bank, as well as input for reporting and risk management the mentioned stake holders. One of the major challenges of this project was that the business focus switched from a fine granular micro-hedging based approach which was applied to a small set of structural products only to a coarser approach allowing wider product variability.

Working in a program that implements the "Need to Know" principle group wide, by creating a fine-grained entitlements management system. Applying business process modeling and business object modeling to produce consolidated input to a CMMI based requirements engineering process.During the project I created a model of all involved business concepts and their connections, both as basis for a program wide glossary and a Business Object Model serving as the programs contribution to the Credit-Suisse wide Enterprise Business Object Model initiative.The glossary and model was stepwise refined while writing the business goals for topics such as special processes for controling temporary access of developers to client data, a scaling deputy mechanism, and extension of the approval rule engine to cover all cross legal entity and cross border regulations by legal and compliance.The program was staffed with a team of about 50 people, and run already 8 years when I joined. The major challlange was to adapt terminology and language to a very broad range of different expertize and background, to extract the most important informations from hundreds of expert discussions, and then consolidate the results using the glossary and model. While most of the time the business object model was used to communicate between our group of business engineers (BE) and various business stakeholder in the bank, at the end the program agreed to use the glossary and model to align the work more systematically with the other teams for requirements-, software-, and test-engineering.

Requirements specification and demonstration for Business Capability Modeling. Supporting the Enterprise Architecture group in the exact definition of requirements to the methodology and later tool support. Blust, 31.8.2009) and contributed mostly conceptual to the proof of concept of replacing the UBS data-type repository DynaRep with CDO/EMF based technology.During the whole project, Montages has helped setting up the UBS cooperation with various Eclipse Modeling Framework component leads and contributed to identify important issues in the field.

Leading a project how modeling can be used to improve documentation and change management in DWHs leading to Model Driven Change Management (MDCM). In contrast to other approaches, MDCM focuses on the busines decisions and the derived requirements, rather than implementation details.MDCM has been developed initially for the Risk & Compliance Datawarehouse of UBS Switzerland and is now applied for the Credit Risk Datawarehouse of 17 international UBS locations. We leverage the existing tool Powerdesigner to model not only various viewpoints on data (business people, implementation, local views, transaction and analyis system's view) but as well the various business decissions and their connections to business rules, data mappings, and interface definitions.

Strategy and planning review for the UBS Data Management Initiative. Both the way how the architectural group executes initiatives as well as the content of the specific Data Management initiatives and its setup have been analyzed using Voyant Group's Model Driven Solutioning approach.

Convincing the business units about the necessity of architecture, supporting various projects in presenting their solutions to central security, architecture and funding boards, requirements engineering with business for RFPs to international vendors, vendor evaluation, stake holder management.Project management for an internet application allowing business partners to sell and advice Private Placement Life Insurance products to high-net worth individuals. Iterative project management was applied to reduce project risks, XML Schema based data management was used to capture the commonalities and variabilities of countless application forms which are different and organically grown for business transactions (initial/additional contribution, full/partial surrender, change of investment strategy, e.t.c.), product families, and country/market specific product subtypes.

Jaree is a start-up in the area of marketing performance management, a special area of business performance management. Worked as external consultant in different projects. Documented and partially reengineered Minicks Domain Specific Language for mobile commerce, using our Montages technology and tools. Wrote a J2EE/JBoss based core engine for virtual chat rooms which dynamically optimizes the way how people are grouped together and which simulates a natural social system.

Cofounded Augurion AG and Augurion Holding AG as a company which translates business ideas in financial services (automated stock reports, technical analysis patterns, real time alerts) by means of domain specific langage technologies.Led the development team while Augurion delivered to Credit Suisse Private Banking an automated fund of fund reporting solution based on three domain specific languages, one for defining financial indicators, one for the structure of the financial products, and one to define the actual text templates; part of these languages was developed with the Montages tool. As well helped keeping up the production of these reports for one year and up to 50 different products.

Research assistent for the institute of theoretical computer science and the institute of computer engineering. Organized several international conferences, co-initiated with Prof. Thiele the ETH Project "Montages" which was funded over three years with two positions. Managed collaboration with GMD First Berlin and Universita di L'Aquila.An industrial collaboration with UBS focusing on DSLs in DWHs, in connection with UBS's cutting edge CUBIX technology was executed.
