Prototypes were tested by Ray Maker (dcrainmaker.com) with a favourable preview. This development required the design of a custom strain gage, analog front end (ADC), electrical schematics, PCB, mechanical housing design and firmware. Firmware development encompassed the implementing of the ANT+ protocol, interfacing low power sensors, and development of an inertial rotation algorithm. Additionally I devised a method of communicating wirelessly from one powermeter to another for independent measurement of each leg.After conducting rigorous testing, edge cases were found for certain riders which lead to consistent but slightly lower power measurements. I led an investigation by a small 'Tiger Team' to track down and improve accuracy while developing an improved future design. I was able to devise a method for improving the current design to achieve similarly accuracy. Using this knowledge I hand-built several prototypes that were evaluated by Specialized Bicycle Company in conjunction with Etixx - Quick-step leading to the sponsorship of an international cycling team. -
