CurrentAt Bakker & Spees I am responsible for the design and implementation of the calculation component used in our products. I have developed a unique declarative formalism that allows product specialists to specify business rules for clients. The declarative specification is both powerful and easy to use, and gives our software unprecedented flexibility. The software implements state-of-the art constraint satisfaction algorithms in C++ and Python. The title 'programmer' reflects the small, informal, self-steering nature of this company. But in fact the job involves all aspect of software development, including management of the development process. We programmers enjoy a lot of freedom in how we build software, and the company entrusts us with the responsibility to make the right technical choices. Bakker & Spees is the market leader in calculation and administration software for the civil engineering sector in the Netherlands, conforming to the RAW standard and VISI system.
