- My group`s research activities include isolation and classification of new bacteria strains that are related to bioleaching of metal ores, especially the acidophilic, chemolithotrophic bacteria Acidithiobacillus sp. (previously known as Thiobacillus sp.), physiological studies that investigate on nutritional questions, isolation and characterization of enzymes to elucidate the functions and pathways of these enzymes that are useful for bioleaching.- My research also focuses on the oxidative stress mechanisms of various microorganisms, especially Legionella sp., Pseudomonas sp. and also the Antarctica chlorophyte microalgae Chlamydomonas sp. and diatoms. I am also interested in understanding the molecular determinants of the structure, and functions ofenzymes, incorporating interdisciplinary studies in inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics, molecular biology and microbiology.- Experienced working at the Antarctica (Casey St.) for about 3 months in collaboration with University of Malaya, Australian Antarctica Division, & University of Tasmania on the oxidative stress of the Antarctica sea ice algae.

Prof. Donald Kurtz Research Group (Bioinorganic Chemistry) Department of Chemistry & Center for Metalloenzyme Studies, The University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602 Research: Oxidative stress mechanism in Anaerob, Desulfovibrio vulgaris (H) (The NIH Grant) - Involved in research investigating on the proteins related to oxidative stress mechanism in the anaerobic bacterium, Desulfovibro vulgaris. During this research, I managed to clone a flavoprotein-A , FprA from this bacterium grown anaerobically. The overexpressed protein could be a promising candidate for the electron donor in the oxidative stress model based on genetic proximity and its homology to a known family of flavoproteins.
