Linguistic justice is central to social justice. Language acts as a medium to represent the world, positions people in their respective circumstances, and thus serves as an integral part of our social lives, defining it as a social practice. Dismissing the language of whole groups of people – and hence dismissing the people – is a harm in itself. It leads to further harm as most social goods – education, work, healthcare, welfare, etc. – are mediated by language.Ky is a queer and transgender professional who uses they/them/he/him pronouns. They have valuable knowledge in community outreach, research-based clinical approaches, trauma-informed practices, and inter-professional collaboration, which has made them a well-rounded clinician. Their personal and clinical experiences have given them a foundation to high standards when it comes to patient and client care, and thus they work hard in ensuring that these standards become a professional priority. The combination of maintaining their education as well as their work experience has given them time-management, organizational skills, and the practical knowledge which in turn has made them confident that they can hit the ground running in any future position given professionally and effectively. They achieved their M.S. in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences — Richard L. Conolly College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Long Island University Brooklyn Campus. Whilst studying in LIU Brooklyn they were also committed to other work and volunteer opportunities in organizations located in Manhattan such as Manhattan Youth Downtown Community Center and Kennedy Child Study Center.As a service provider they care about equity and justice in their field, being part of the global majority and Filipino diaspora. At this time, working as a service provider in a non-profit organization focused on clients with Autism, language deficits, various mental illnesses, and diverse backgrounds. Their caseload demographic has ranged from children and adolescents ranging from 5 to 21, has given them the insight and knowledge about the unyielding systemic injustices and disservice that impacts communities of Black, Brown, and Indigenous disenfranchised students and their families. As a queer and trans Speech and Language Pathologist, they also concern themselves in matters of providing efficient, accessible, and intersectional education, community conversations, and support for the LGBTQIA+ community.
