Kyla-Yen is currently the Administrative Assistant at True Costs Initiative. They graduated cum laude from Brandeis University in May 2023 with a B.A. in Anthropology and minors in Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies and English.An accomplished writer, Kyla-Yen is a 2024-2025 Writer in Residence with Collections of Transience’s fiction program, and an upcoming Spring 2025 writing resident at the Sundress Academy for the Arts (SAFTA). They have been published in GASHER Journal’s print anthology CHERRY MOON: Emerging Voices from the Asian Diaspora, released May 2023; For Page & Screen Magazine’s Issue no. 4, released August 2023; Beyond Queer Words’ Fifth Edition prose anthology, released January 2024; The Amazine, published July 2024; and Vanguard’s Issue no. 6, released October 2024; as well as been featured in For Page & Screen Productions’ 2024 Summer Interview Series podcast; Mass Poetry’s U35 Reading Series at Trident Booksellers & Cafe in Boston, MA; and GASHER Journal’s CHERRY MOON launch reading at Unnameable Books in Brooklyn, NY. They were also a semi-finalist in Moonbox Productions' 2023 Boston New Works Festival and a finalist in Porter Square Books' 2024 Writers in Residence Program and Novel Slices' Issue 7 contest.Kyla-Yen is also a passionate community member and social justice advocate, having been responsible for helping to spearhead many student-led initiatives at Brandeis University, such as the Brandeis Mutual Aid Fund and the Queer and Trans People of Color Coalition. They have also been a role model and educator for their peers, having served as a member of the Gender and Sexuality Center Pride Reps program and the Roosevelt Fellows peer academic advisors team.
