My aviation human factors experience includes accident investigation at the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, as well as research with the Swedish CAA, Dédale Human Factors Consulting, and the European project HILAS. As my HF investigation work at the TSB included marine and rail accidents, I was able to apply my knowledge beyond aviation and expand my expertise. I was then able to introduce human factors to Transport Canada's Rail Safety department for the first time, working primarily on operator fatigue.My background is in aviation and I hold a Master's Degree in Aviation Human Factors, a Bachelor's in Aerospace Engineering, and was active as a private and glider pilot from my teenage years until moving to Europe for graduate studies in 2003. My professional aviation experience includes flight test engineering on the Bombardier Q400 and customer service engineering (in-service) for Dash-8 operators.During my time with Dédale I conducted a survey of aviation professionals in various jobs around the world to understand their different points of view (Safety I vs Safety II) on aviation safety and human factors issues such as trust in automation, view of the human role in the system, and perceived riskiness of rule-breaking and relationship between rule-adherence and safety.My professional goal is to apply human factors and resilience related concepts in high-risk industrial work settings. I am particularly passionate about safety or risk management, accident/incident investigation, regulation and oversight, HF training, or culture.
