Engineering Officer on the MV Eurpoean Causeway RORO Passenger Ferry, Returned to the MV European Causeway as an Engineer Officer following the completion of my cadetship. Involved in the day to day running of the ship, watchkeeping and maintenance. I was recently present in the latest dry dock at Harland and Wolff shipyard. Since being back I was swiftly moved up to 3rd engineer, so I am very familiar with the duties and responsibilities of the role.• Propulsion system including reduction gear, controllable pitch propeller, shaft bearings and stern tubes.• Thrusters - Tunnel type.• Power generation and distribution (440V/220V) – Shaft Generators, Auxiliary Generators and Emergency Generators – Main and emergency switchboards, transformers and circuit breakers.• Fuel and oil treatment – Purification, heating and filtration.• Compressed Air systems – Including starting air, working air and control air.• Hydraulic systems – Such as rotary vane steering gear and deck equipment.• Cooling systems; fresh water and sea water.• Treatment and Disposal of waste oil, sludge and bilge water in a safe and environmentally friendly manner in accordance with MARPOL• Treatment and disposal of sewage and grey water• Firefighting appliances including fixed CO2, water mist, fire pumps, monitors and extinguishers. This was put into practice during a major engine room fire on the Pride of hull in October 2020.• The maintenance and operation of MOB, FRC and standby boats.• Widespread dry dock experience having been present for four separate visits to dry dock.
