Specific responsibilities of the Manager of Equipment Maintenance for VIA Rail in Winnipeg include:1. The safe, efficient and effective servicing and maintenance of passenger rail cars and locomotives;2. The management and direction of all unionized and non-unionized maintenance staff in the region;3. The management of a 40000+ square foot maintenance facility, including all contracts and contractor relationships;4. The management of an 8 acre rail yard, including all track maintenance contracts.

I spent three years at the Canadian Forces Naval Engineering School studying Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Technology followed by three years aboard the Canadian Frigate HMCS St. Johns. As a Naval Weapons Technician aboard the St. Johns, I was responsible for the effective operation and maintenance of all weapons systems on the ship. These systems included:1. The 57mm Bofors main gun;2. The Close-in Weapons system (CIWS);3. The Harpoon Missile System (sea-to-ground);4. The Sea Sparrow Missile System (sea-to-air);5. The torpedo system;6. The Chaff system (countermeasures).Naval Weapons Technicians are responsible for all aspects of repair and maintenance of these systems, and as such, must be fully competent in working with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. This has resulted in my having a very well rounded technical skill set.
