As a Senior Scientist I manage the laboratory team efficiently so that we can process and result all samples within our desired turn around time. I also organize and oversee the set up of new PCR labs, this requires me to plan and arrange the new laboratories, whilst ensuring that all relevant departments (such as reagents, biosafety, equipment and Operations support) are informed and can support this new lab according to our client's requirements. As well as organizing the set up of these labs I also perform the facilities audits and risk assessments to ensure that it is a safe environment for our employees to work in. As Biosafety officer i am responsible for designing and maintaining a strict set of biosafety procedures; as part of this responsibility i have written and updated many of the SOPs utilized at Viva health Laboratories, ranging from SOPs detailing our PCR procedures to SOPs covering the safe transport and handling of samples.Additionally this job has given me the opportunity to assist in the development of the company from a small start up lab to a dynamic, fully UKAS accredited (pending) laboratory that is always looking to grow and develop.

As a Chemical Analyst I performed Gas Chromatography analysis on a range of racing fuels (including Formula 1 and Moto GP fuels) to assess their purity and determine whether they are fit for purpose. Additionally I was responsible for the production and analysis of pilot fuels (experimental fuels that we produced as part of our research and development projects.) in order to assess whether the formulation achieves its desired properties.
