I led system architecting, development, and deployment of the experimental SCALE (Safe Community ALerting nEtwork) project for the Smart America Challenge. SCALE (www.scale.ics.uci.edu) leverages off-the-shelf IoT hardware, multiple networking technologies, and cloud/edge-based analytics to extend a smarter, safer home to all residents at a low incremental.

As the senior member of a 3-intern team, I architected and developed an ns-3-based simulation framework for testing the data plane and scheduler of a satellite modem. This involved navigating WIMAX and proprietary internal documentation to simulate the satellite MAC protocols. We documented the system architectural design and formally presented the project.

I collaborated with seismologists at Stanford University and UC Riverside on the Quake-Catcher Network (QCN) project that collects seismic data from inexpensive accelerometers. I updated and extended EmBOINC, a simulator of BOINC (a volunteer computing middleware)projects, to test QCN’s server and earthquake-detection algorithms. I analyzed and fine-tuned.

I assisted UD students with troubleshooting network connection, printer, and basic operating system problems. I also participated in an outreach program in which we spoke to local high school students and incoming freshmen about safe, responsible, and legal computing and Internet practices.

I started working as a Site Assistant helping students/faculty/etc. use the computing resources in various labs. I later took on the Technical Supervisor role in which I supervised other student staff, filed student payroll, and maintained inventory. I also updated, upgraded, and maintained computers and printers in the computer labs in this expanded role.
