At BNSF I interned in the Technology Services department working on the AEI (Automatic Equipment Identification) team with some very skilled electrical engineers, computer scientists, and computer system analysts. While in this role I was in charge of designing a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 system that would convert dial-up files sent from various AEI readers to IP so that certain machines not owned by BNSF would not have to be paid to be upgraded to utilize IP by BNSF. The system I created is now being pushed into production and will actively serve as a gateway for dial-up files sent in from older systems. If this system had not been created BNSF would have been forced to pay for other companies systems to be upgraded in order to send reads via IP. The computer system I designed has potentially saved BNSF tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.• Designed a Linux computer system to ensure the longevity of legacy systems saving the company tens of thousands of dollars• Utilized C++, Linux, and engineering knowledge to program advanced serial communication protocols• Presented summer project to an audience of both technical and non-technical users

At Alcon I worked with the IT Security, Architecture, and Engineering team to create a more feasible solution for IT Security reporting. My role was to design an application to take generated security reports, import them into a SQL database, create metrics data by joining various tables, and then distribute the reports to their various site owners across the globe.
