Kyle Johnson, PCII Born in southern New Jersey, Kyle started cooking at an early age focusing on the local ingredients and the animals that his family raised. By the age of 18, he had developed a passion for food and began his career studying at the Academy at Culinary Arts, where he graduated with honors. While earning his culinary degree, he won many culinary competitions all over the East Coast, including as Captain of a culinary competition team that won a NJ state title in both 2002 and 2003. Kyle worked his way up through several large hotels in New Jersey, and honed his craft working in fine dining restaurants with Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group, where he worked as Sous Chef for several years.In 2012, he and his wife moved to Washington, DC, and he joined Aramark Higher Education. During his tenure with Aramark, he worked first at Georgetown University, and most recently at American University. He held several different positions at AU, including Sustainability Chef and most recently Executive Chef of AU Dining. In addition to managing a culinary team of 140 team members and creating local and seasonal menus, Kyle lead AU Dining’s goals towards community outreach by conducting live cooking demonstrations for university staff and students, speaking on campus to sustainability and nutrition clubs and classes, and bringing awareness to AU Dining’s sustainable practices. Within the last year, Kyle is proud to have attained a Green Restaurant Certification for the AU Dining facility (a professional achievement), as well as earned his Prof Chef II certification from the Culinary Institute of America (a personal achievement).
