Kyle Kershner, Ms Email and Phone Number
I am currently a PhD student at Arizona State University and I work under the direction of Dr. Chad Stecher. Currently, my research interests lie in the intersection of contemporary technology (e.g., virtual reality, wearable activity monitors, mHealth, etc.), social connection, and healthy behavior change (e.g., increase physical activity, diet, etc.). My time as a research scientist has allowed me to:- Gain knowledge and practical experience in reading and understanding scientific literature, developing cutting-edge research questions, generating hypotheses, designing and managing clinical trials, data analysis, and dissemination of findings. - Develop and maintain relationships with world-renowned research scientists at the Mayo Clinic, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Wake Forest University, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, University of Utah, Towson University, and Johns Hopkins Medical Institute.- Establish expertise in the use of group-mediated interventions, physical activity prescription, and wearable sensors to objectively measure participant behavior. -Create an effective scientific communication style which can be adapted to different audiences including research participants, students, clinicians, research scientists, and industry sponsors.- Identify specific experiences during my own personal healthy behavior change process which directly relate to established behavioral theories used in the literature. By stepping back and identifying influential elements of my own personal behavior change, I now have a greater appreciation for the behavior change process and have an increased ability to connect with participants. I am passionate about helping others find and maintain healthy behaviors. I believe contemporary technology, if harnessed properly, can be leveraged to increase the frequency of healthy behaviors (or limit the frequency of behaviors detrimental to health) and improve overall quality of life in it's users.
