About Kyle Landis

I am a recent graduate from Widener University where I received my Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. At Widener and my internships, I worked heavily with Solid Modelling and Finite Element Analysis. At this time I am searching for a competitive entry level mechanical engineering position in which my experience, technical curiosity, innovation, and problem-solving skills will be utilized to help me develop into a successful engineer. My ultimate dream is to take my knowledge, work experience, and interests into the automotive industry. I consider myself a “Gear Head”; not in the sense of knowing everything about cars, but in the sense of continuously being eager to learn more about them each and every day. I am an avid fan of Rally racing, transmissions, suspensions, exhaust systems, turbochargers, intercoolers, and much more! Working on my own car, not only excites me, but enables me to get additional real world hands on experience!I have previous work experience at W.L. Gore & Associates, and E.I. DuPont, and worked alongside Boeing where I was able to successfully design and prototype a new and innovative transmission gearbox system for a dual rotor helicopter. I pride myself in strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills which are paired with my technical curiosity, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and willingness to learn.

  • Naval Surface Warfare Center Phi
    Mechanical Engineer
Naval Surface Warfare Center Phi Jun 2015 - Feb 2018
    Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Engineer for the Navy's LM2500 gas turbine engine program, which is the main propulsion turbine aboard over 100 surface combatants. Developed new techniques and analytical approaches for interpreting naval data. Member of the Navy Failure Review board targeting fleeting engineering improvements, coordinating groups from several Navy commands, engine manufacturers, and support contractors to produce verifiable metrics data. Lead role in R&D program to devise repair processes for LM2500 high pressure turbine components. Evaluation of technical proposals for Navy support contracts.
  • W. L. Gore & Associates
    Mechanical Engineering Intern
    W. L. Gore & Associates May 2015 - Sep 2015
    Newark, Delaware
During the summer months I was fortunate enough to intern at W.L. Gore & Associates, where I worked with the Technology Team within the Electronic Products Division. The bulk of my work revolved around the electric breakdown of various thin-films. I successfully created and validated a thermal finite element model of a thin-film breakdown fixture; via various trial/error tests, the use of solid-modelling (SolidWorks), and the use of a finite element software (ANSYS). I was also able to gain experience in programming PID loop controllers, testing material thermal properties, and statistical discovery tools (JMP).
  • Widener University
    Mechanical Engineering Student
    Widener University Aug 2011 - May 2015
NCAA Student Athlete competing in Track and Field. Member of ASME, Engineering Without Borders, and Widener University's Entrepreneurs Club. Honor Roll and Dean's List.
  • Dupont
    Mechanical Engineering Intern
    Dupont May 2014 - Aug 2014
    Wilmington, Delaware
This past summer, I interned for both the Rotating Machinery and Process Equipment groups, headed by Joseph DelTosto. Daniel Wood was my mentor and the experience that I gained while at DuPont was great. One of my projects was to help create and design a Pump Sealing Technology Selection Guide for the purpose of properly selecting seals for various pumping applications. When a pump operates, the process fluid can leak out of the pump between the stationary pump casing and the rotating shaft. If this fluid is hazardous, it could lead to serious problems. This tool will improve safety, improve reliability, protect the environment, and decreases costs. During my twelve week internship, I also worked heavily with standardizing fitting losses in pressure relief systems. I was able to utilize my prior knowledge in fluid mechanics to gather results in order to help find a solution to the issues present with velocity head loss coefficients.
  • Don Pablo'S
    Restaurant Waiter
    Don Pablo'S May 2013 - Jan 2014
Working as a server taught me valuable lessons and I have obtained useful skills as a result. Teamwork is crucial to having a restaurant run smooth and properly – without helping out other servers, the restaurant can get backed up and would result in poor customer satisfaction. Teamwork is the key to any engineering project because it can better solve problems and yield efficiency
