I find it profoundly difficult to work in a field without the sense I am contributing to the wellbeing of others in some meaningful way- but when I do feel like I'm making a difference, I fundamentally enjoy being on call, putting in the extra effort and getting done whatever must be done.After college I dove headfirst into both the mental health and education fields, doing ABA therapy with kids with autism while organizing the workers at a tutoring company. Since then, I have taught English abroad, have worked with the English Montreal schoolboard, and now work as an educator for an addiction centre. Over the past thirteen years I have contributed to a slew of nonprofit projects, many of which working with children. Some of the most impactful to me include working at an orphanage in Panama, volunteering at the First Nation's reserve nearby Montreal, and filming a documentary about mental health in the small Eastern European country of Kosovo. I am always looking to learn, and just as I would tell my students, everyone makes mistakes. It's all about picking yourself up and bettering yourself from them!
