Assistant Professor
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Worked on functional inorganic materials under the supervision of Professor Maksym Kovalenko, with focuses on single crystal growth and the halide perovskites for applications in radiation detection and light emission.Coordinated a collaborative project with an industry partner (RC Tritec AG) and a Swiss national laboratory (PSI), conducted fast neutron imaging measurements at a nuclear reactor in Garching, Germany (FRM-II). Founding crystal grower in the ETH+ SynMatLab facility which is bringing first-class crystal growth facilities to ETH. Assisted in the procuring and operation of the Bridgman crystal growth furnaces for research and educational purposes. Helped design a practical laboratory course on single crystal growth and characterization for master's and PhD students at ETH.
Graduate Research Assistant
Worked with Professor Mercouri Kanatzidis in Chemistry and Professor Bruce Wessels in Materials Science to synthesize and characterize perovskite materials for potential applications in nuclear radiation detection. Exploratory inorganic chemistry techniques yielded new compounds which are studied with differential thermal analysis and x-ray diffraction. Large single crystals of halide perovskites were grown via the Bridgman method for use as planar detectors, and the electronic properties were characterized via photoluminescence, alpha particle, and gamma radiation spectroscopies. Responsibilities included acting as the Safety Designate for both research groups which involves managing and communicating the hazards of a chemical lab and serving as the liaison between the group and the Office of Research Safety.Held a Guest Graduate appointment at Argonne National Laboratory's Materials Science Division to characterize hard radiation detectors at MSD (Oct. 2016-March 2019). Through Argonne's general user programs, took part in six variable temperature synchrotron powder x-ray diffraction proposals at the Advanced Photon Source and carried out a proposal for transient reflectance measurements at the Center for Nanoscale Materials.
Research Assistant
Worked under Professor Adilson Motter of the Physics Department conducting computational modeling of materials. Worked in Python and Matlab to develop a Molecular Dynamics Simulation model for studying mechanical metamaterials to reproduce previous results in preparation for the design of new materials.
Senior Student Manager At South Dining Hall
As the liaison between the student workers and the full-time managers, led the student managers in organizing the student workers. Ultimately responsible for the actions of all student workers, duties included reporting issues to the full-time managers, conflict resolution, managing the team of student managers, and maintaining smooth operations in the dining hall.
Research Assistant
Worked with Professor Kenjiro Gomes of the Physics Department on a MATLAB model of surface scattering. This model was used to simulate molecular graphene, and the results were compared to STM data taken during Professor Gomes's time at Stanford University. An honors physics thesis was produced based on this work, and is available upon request.
Student Manager At South Dining Hall
One of ten student managers, worked together to manage 80 students and ensure smooth operations. Duties included conflict resolution as well as recruiting and training new student workers.
Research Assistant
Awarded an NDnano Undergraduate Research Fellowship for the summer of 2012 and conducted research with Professor Mintairov (of the Electrical Engineering Department) studying quantum dots.
Research Assistant
Worked on a materials science project with Professor Zhang (Dept. of Physics) growing and studying Mn-doped SnTe topological crystalline insulator nanowires. Became proficient in the vapor-liquid-solid growth method, electron-beam lithography, thermal metal deposition, and the operation of a scanning electron microscope.
Student Worker At South Dining Hall
Prepared food, managed and organized inventories, and maintained clean and welcoming facilities.
Academic Tutor
Tutored freshmen in Calculus and Physics through the First Year of Studies tutoring program.
