Been involved in this industry for as long as I can remember. Started labouring with my fathers company when I was 14-still going to school & just helping him out from time to time! Eventually graduation came and I went to full time for my fathers company Lor-ill Trucking out of Drayton Valley. I started labouring for him but worked my way up to operating cranes and driving from time to time. Eventually I got my class 1 and went to trade school at NAIT in Edmonton. I graduated Crane / Rigging / hoisting course and worked for my father for a couple more years before I started my own company in 2008. For the first couple years I ran through his company and eventually once a little more established I started my own safety policies and started direct billing oil companies and any other companies that required our services. It’s been 9 years since I incorporated my company Chain Oilfield Services. It hasn’t been easy, I’ve shed blood and tears for this company, lost years worth of sleep to make things work. I’ve Never really known stress until I started my own company - with all that being said there are much more positives with this journey than negatives. It has enabled my family to have a great life and I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. The current government atmosphere provincially and federally lately sure haven’t made things easier for small business owners. Taxes are up, certain small business tax breaks have be abolished and work is selective. This is mostly due to pipeline bottlenecks within the province and anti-investment policies federally! I always look at the best in everything, I’ll do what I can to keep my employees and company around so when the time comes we will be here to supply our clients with the services they require. I often tell my employees that without the company they wouldn’t have jobs but without employees there would be no company. We work together and we make this work for everyone involved. This still rings true everyday!
