As an award-winning Social Studies Teacher, I have made a real difference in helping my students to learn AP US Government, Senior Government, World History, and US History.In recognition for what I do in the classroom, The Henry Ford named me the 2019 TEACHER INNOVATOR GRAND PRIZE WINNER, the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (Piety Hill Chapter) choose me as it's 2014 OUTSTANDING TEACHER of AMERICAN HISTORY recipient, and The National Endowment for the Humanities has nominated me 4 times as a NEH SUMMER SCHOLAR.As a classroom teacher, I design formative and summative assessments, communicated with parents, graded papers, managed a classroom, and incorporated items such as debates, film, discussions, current events, projects, and map work into a classroom that focuses on mastery of the subject matter for students with multiple learning styles.Worked on curriculum redevelopment groups for district on US History and World History and Senior Government. Successfully taught flipped, large-group, and team-taught classes. Sponsored charities and after school clubs, including a communications and leadership camp, Military History club, and Social Studies Olympiad. Picked by colleagues to teach classes to colleagues on how to use more data analysis in the classroom. Frequently invited by local community leaders to bring students to events, including Detroit Economic Club Luncheons and Oakland County Youth in Government Day.

Instructor of AP US Government, Anthropology, US History, World History, and other social studies courses. Provided instruction online, which meant an increased focus on providing quality feedback on assignments and answering student questions in a quick and clear manner.

Evaluates test items for the Social Studies MME Content Advisory Committee (CAC) at both the middle school and high school levels on multiple social studies subjects, deciding whether they meet Michigan benchmarks and content standards, are appropriate for the grade level, are worded clearly, and are clear and accurate items. Member of the Bias Review Committee, where I evaluate test items for any bias that might unfairly disadvantage a student. Set the cut scores for the Reading MME Standards Setting Panel (SSP) and the Social Studies MSTEP Standards Setting Panel. Participated in test development activities for the new teacher certification tests for the Social Studies portion of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) program.

Reader for the AP US Government Exam, where I am an expert on scoring exams based on rubrics. In addition I engage in considerable professional development while at the Reading, attending workshops and conferences and talking with other teachers.

Teacher of World History, Honors World History, and US History classes at Berkley High School, and AP US Government, AP Comparative Government, and Military History at CASA. Also taught Economics classes at Anderson Middle School for Berkley’s summer school program. Diversified teaching methods successfully reached students of varying skill levels, whether it was AP, Honors, Regular, or Team.
