Operations Manager - CertainTeed Gypsum (8655 South 187th Street, Kent Washington 98031)The plant manufactures both wet and dry joint compound for the wallboard industry. The plant employed up to 16 employees and has operated 24 hours, 5-6days a week, with three shifts. The plant operates on a batch process with automation to fill, mix, convey, and package the boxes, pails, or bags of joint compound. Responsibilities included:1) Direct the Safety of the Production staff through monthly training, daily safety huddles, monthly inspections, and enforcement of plant and government safety guidelines. Developed One Point lesson documents for all Lock-out/Tag-out locations in the plant.2) Monitor, track, train, and ensure quality. Develop the plant's Quality pillar under World Class Manufacturing (WCM – Lean Manufacturing). Apply recent learning from CQE training & ASQ CQE certification. Leading an MSA project on Product Measurement Precision to identify gaps in measurements and reduce variation. Design test, collect data, and analyze results using Statistical methods and make recommendations and action plans for improvement. Significantly decreased “Holds” and “re-testing” by more than 80 percent. Present progress of Quality Principles at the plant to the Company's North America Management Board.3) Coordinate the production of both the wet line and the dry line by processing incoming orders, tracking production and finished goods inventory, and scheduling production runs. 4) Manage scheduling, hiring, and training of the crew. 5) Manage all maintenance: Preventative, break-down, or improvement projects through ordering parts, scheduling contracted services, or performing the maintenance myself as the only "on-site mechanic". “Self-teaching” how to fix things, rebuild equipment, and repairs. Training employees to learn maintenance skills.6) Maintain attendance records, disciplinary actions, and handle any other Human Resource issues as they occur.
