    Kent, Washington, United States
    ● Train and serve on a small rotation of Lead Engineers of New Shepard Mission Control's "Engineering Backroom", an operations-focused team of 20+ subsystem experts responsible for all technical decision making and anomaly resolution across all phases of suborbital human spaceflight, including vertical landing and recovery of a reusable rocket booster.● Serve as a supporting engineer in Mission Control on 17 launches and landings to date.● Participate in frequent integrated simulation sessions to train with launch crew, with major focus on safety critical, real-time anomaly resolution and crew resource management.
  • Blue Origin
Launch Vehicle Manager (Crew Chief), New Shepard Rocket "Tail #3"
    Blue Origin Sep 2016 - Sep 2021
    Kent, Wa
    ● Responsible for flight readiness of Blue Origin's fleet leader reusable rocket vehicle across 8 suborbital spaceflights and landings. Led all maintenance/refurbishment between launches, retrofitted design upgrades, and continuously monitored vehicle health through pre-launch testing● Authored installation manual and led integration of a 3000hr+ retrofit of a lunar navigation system for NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate's Tipping Point contract for De-Orbit, Descent and Landing technology. Worked continuously with technicians in boomlifts and from tight access locations while hand-filming and hosting Skype meetings to relay drawing change requests to teammates across the country. This approach allowed for technicians to resume work within minutes of a work stoppage, while the remote engineering team could follow in real-time during COVID-19 restrictions.● Owned master list of vehicle non-conformances/discrepancies, triaged by mission in response to evolving test objectives along the flight test program● Owned, authored, and edited 40+ procedures for refurbishing rocket between launches● Provided Go/No-Go recommendation for rocket prior to launch day, based upon vehicle status and risk posture of the program
  • Masten Space Systems
Mechanic, Flight Test Engineer, Crew Chief, And Launch Conductor
    Masten Space Systems 2011 - 2016
    Mojave, California
Fabrication lead, Crew Chief, and Launch Conductor of Xodiac: a state-of-the-art 1200lbf class VTVL reusable rocket. Team leader of flight test crew. Responsible for executing flight test program in preparation for commercial operations for NASA and private customers. Responsible for all vehicle maintenance, inspection, repairs, and upgrades. Orchestrated launch countdown/master launch procedures from control bunker and directed all test-site operations/radio comms across 59 flight tests and 26 static engine firings. Performed all rocket engine teardowns, inspections, and rebuilds. Responsible for go/no-go decision after each teardown. Responsible for ultimate go/no-go decision at launch site prior to issuing launch command.● CAD modeling, advanced composites design and fabrication, pressurized and cryogenic fluids system fabrication and maintenance, flight critical TIG welding and brazing, manufacturability/operability design, and major integration of suborbital reusable VTVL rockets, including hand building the complete carbon fiber structure and skin at rapid speed, in parallel with the scratch fabrication and testing of onboard high pressure helium/reaction control/cryogenic propellant systems.● Instructed and managed 17 interns to date on tooling fabrication, carbon/glass: hand layups, vacuum infusion, post-curing, and major assembly● Performed field ops and troubleshooting of bi-propellant liquid rockets on over 261 test flights● Redesigned workhorse engine assemblies for GD&T, cost and ease of maintenance, created all drawings and oversaw all machining● Performed major composite repair on flight critical structures● Elected to solo ingress and perform emergency repair operation inside an Atlas V Centaur upper stage, under advisement of ULA Advanced Programs executives● Produced all video footage for press releases, including a three-part video series with NASA JPL● Wrote and executed technical interviews for new hires
  • Boeing
    777 Propulsion Engineering Intern
    Boeing Jun 2010 - Sep 2010
    Renton, Wa
    ● Elected by senior engineers to conduct and document the complete oil endurance analysis for all six variants of the 777 airliner (777-200/ER/LR, -300/ER/F) across all engine configurations (General Electric GE90, Pratt & Whitney PW4000 and Rolls-Royce Trent 800), as part of an unprecedented flight envelope expansion process, known as '330-Minute Extended Twin Operations' (or '330-Min ETOPS'). This expansion unlocked trans-polar and other previously impossible point-to-point routes for twin engine civilian transport aircraft by allowing the 777 to stray up to 330 minutes from the nearest engine-out diversion airport, by statistically proving the reliability of each engine in case of an in-flight engine failure. The results of this oil endurance analysis, when presented to the Boeing engineering team and the FAA, drove adjustments in global airline engine maintenance schedules of the 777 fleet.● Wrote stand-alone MATLAB code to process and analyze off-nominal engine vibration data for a leading international airline, while unable to access the original vibrational analysis software license due to intern restrictions● Elected to host meetings and direct workflow as an intern, in an effort to troubleshoot a GE90 thrust reverser issue● Researched and explained an engine maintenance procedure of the 777 Aircraft Maintenance Manual to representatives of a foreign airline, after demonstrating mechanical intuition to senior engineers
  • The Port Townsend Aero Museum
Aircraft Restoration Technician And Volunteer Pilot
The Port Townsend Aero Museum Mar 2003 - Sep 2008
    Jefferson County International Airport
    ● Trained adults, teenagers, and recovering addicts in techniques of aircraft restoration across 2000 hours of community service● Led the intricate process of fabric covering (skinning) spruce/steel aircraft structures on countless restorations, including a 1934 Waco YMF-3 biplane which was awarded "Antique Winner" at the 2009 Reno Air Races● Performed first test flight of a restored 1946 Aeronca 7AC Champ as pilot-in-command at age 18, after demonstrating proficiency in tailwheel aircraft and calm reaction to in-flight emergencies to the President of the Board of Directors of the museum● Maintained flight currency as pilot-in-command in over 10 vintage aircraft types, including a 1942 Ryan PT-22, 1932 Pietenpol Sky Scout, and 1929 Corben Baby Ace● Routinely and successfully handled off-nominal events related to spontaneous hardware failures in flight, including runaway elevator trim in a 1940 Stinson SR-10E Reliant and stuck idle during cruise in a 1946 Piper J-3 Cub, both prompting emergency landings while troubleshooting the aircraft systems mid-flight enroute to the diversion airport● Unofficially instructed teenagers on the servicing, flying, landing, and emergency handling of antique aircraft● Worked frequently with drug rehabilitation groups on all aspects of antique aircraft restoration, including one-on-one flight instruction as pilot-in-command with recovering drug addicts● Designed, fabricated, and maintained aircraft art galleries● Directed tours for high-profile potential museum donors● Delivered speeches for high-profile fundraising events
