During this internship, my primary role was grant research and proposal writing. I coordinated directly with 50 by 25 leadership to determine project scope and funding requirements, then sought out opportunities which aligned with their needs.I also helped set up an email newsletter for the organization, focusing on climate news within the city of Harrisonburg, as well as opportunities for advocacy.

Created tutorials—both written and video—to instruct JMU students & professors on how to use digital creation platforms such as WordPress, Canva, Wix, etc. I also helped to redesign websites under the university's domain in order to increase brand cohesion. Lastly, I transcribed interviews with former Lucy Simms school faculty for the Celebrating Simms Center.

Repainted dorms and offices across JMU's campus, removing bubbles and plastering holes left from students' personal effects.

Wrote consumer-relevant blogs for client websites in order to boost search engine rankings and traffic.

My time in the service industry, particularly with Pizza Hut, gave me experience with all sorts of manual labor, be it moving soda crates and boxes of ingredients off the delivery truck, the aforementioned fryer-cleaning, or any number of other tasks requiring a set of arms and some backbone. Of course, dexterity has been crucial as well, such as when making a delivery worth over $100 that’s stacked two to three times the normal height of my deliveries. I also gained experience in how to best serve customers of a variety of backgrounds and dispositions, using the lessons from my WRTC major to assess the nature of a situation and break it down for others in more everyday terms
