My e-commerce journey began as a kid when refactoring a Perl script my uncle wrote for my grandfather’s online vitamin business to PHP 4. Flash forward a couple of years, and you'll find a 14-year-old doing small PHP development projects on scriptlance.com. A year later, after partnering with a doctor in Internal Medicine, we built our first successful web application, followed by a couple of others, all of which are still leaders in the medical residency industry today. This was before SaaS was even a term! 🤓This experience had me hooked. Creating a web application means taking an idea and making it reality. Almost like building a house from blue prints except your open house has thousands of people visiting at the same time 😆 When one takes off it really is intoxicating.I entered the FinPub industry at 19 as a PHP developer for Angel Publishing in 2007. At this time we were well below 10m in revenue and the majority was from email marketing. I had managed my own Postfix servers before but still knew very little about email. Angel was sending their own email via Exim servers. After taking over as sysadmin a couple of years later, we decided to outsource our email delivery to an email service provider to focus on our web applications. After a lot of growth, and a couple of different ESPs, we made the decision to bring email back in-house years later. We have been sending with Momentum ever since. At this point, we knew a ton about email but also about recurring billing, automation, app development, and, most importantly, how to scale all of these things together.We did exactly that by forming OptiPub, which is a one-of-a-kind MarTech platform geared towards the publishing industry. OptiPub has now delivered billions of messages while generating hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for its clients. Looking forward, we will continue to grow OptiPub and break into other markets with new products and services.
