If I had to sum up my philosophy on life in one sentence, it would be this: Always learn, always grow, you never know as much as you think you do. I started my career in chemical engineering. Then I got a PhD in cognitive psychology. Then, I took what I learned about human perception and behavior and helped brands like Lee Jeans, Wrangler Jeans, Vans, and The North Face with the psychology of product design and customer experience. While working on projects for Lee Jeans and Wrangler Jeans, I learned about laser finishing of denim – i.e., creating graphics and worn-in effects on denim by burning away the indigo with carbon-dioxide lasers – which I found to be a fascinating technique for design and sustainability (you don't need so many wasteful washing steps!). I worked on several projects innovating with this technology, e.g., the 'Body Optix' line of visually flattering jeans for Lee. At the time, my colleagues and I noticed that there was a bottleneck in the laser finishing process – making the laser design! Making a laser design that looks natural (i.e., like an ACTUAL vintage garment) can take a whole day of work in Photoshop and requires the touch of an experienced laser designer. So, during the pandemic, I got together with some colleagues and set about solving this problem. We created an online platform that is able to turn an image of a vintage garment into a laser design for mimicking the worn-in effect on that garment in just 3 minutes. Our system leverages the latest advances in artificial intelligence to give a very natural, "3D" looking effect (denim designers will know what I'm talking about...) and we have a patent pending on this technology. I'm proud of the work we have put in and we are rapidly gaining customers all over the world.
