12-week Conservation internship assisting in feral cat and wildlife monitoring at the Matuwa Indigenous Protected Area in the Pilbara. 2-week field component including scat surveys for Boodies (Bettongia leseuer) and Mala (Lagorchestes hirsutus), camera trap servicing and ATV operation, and B. leseuer and Golden Bandicoot (Isoodon auratus) monitoring within Matuwa IPA’s predator-proof enclosure. During the latter, each team was assigned approximately 100 traps per night, achieving a 70-80% capture rate over 4 trap nights. Duties included:• Database handling and native animal identification.• Mark/resight feral cat identification and population estimates.• Animal trapping, handling, microchipping and scat surveying• Remote work in a Martu Indigenous Protected Area in the Pilbara• ATV operation and camera trap servicing.• Engaging with department employees and collaborators.
