About Kyle Werner
I am a Principal Software Engineer with years of experience in designing and developing high quality, highly available software. I specialize in web services and distributed systems, while occasionally dabbling in frontend development. I'm currently helping to build Microsoft's next billion-dollar business in the Power Platform. I was one of the original backend developers on the Power Apps web service in 2016 when we launched our preview. I am now helping our customers better realize many of their platform administrative needs through my work on the team responsible for Environment management. (Environments are the platform's resource container and data boundary concept - check it out: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/environments-overview).

Principal Software Engineer
Designed and implemented a compliant and regionally isolated architecture for the Power Platform Environment discovery and listing APIs. Maintained side-by-side support for both models while successfully performing an in-place migration of traffic to the new solution. Delivered solution reducing the 95th percentile latency of the highest volume listing API by 60%.Side-by-side rollout of storage replication solution to prevent impact from an external team's service deprecation. Multi-month, four-phased approach resulted in zero customer impact or downtime and led to an annualized savings of $3.25MM, or a 50% reduction, for the service.Mentor and lead contributor for numerous cross-team workstreams involving platform resource lifecycle and management.
Senior Software Engineer
Designed, developed, and implemented a delegated framework for application lifecycle management (ALM) support for the Power Platform’s Canvas App resource type as a Dataverse solution component. Distributed model maintained a clear separation of responsibilities between teams and services, clearly delineating ownership and setting an example for implementation by other Dataverse partner teams.Architected and implemented a generic framework for administrative Power Platform Environment operations, enabling consistent partner integration, error handling, history, and user experience.Planned, presented, and led an eight-phase project implementation to separate the Environment Management API service from the Power Apps API service. Migrated nearly 35MM daily requests, maintaining high customer availability throughout.Identified trends in the automated and customer reported incidents of the Environment Management service and proposed a multi-faceted approach to sustainably reduce incident volume. Reduced relevant overall incidents per day (IPD) by 40% YOY and customer reported incidents (CRIs) by nearly 70% YOY. Net reduction greatly reduced the engineering time spent and overall monetary cost of support.
Software Engineer Ii
Led the architecture design and implementation related to the introduction of a resource container concept that simplified the ALM story for PowerApps, Power Automate, and other resources supported by the Power Platform.Led multi-discipline scrum focused on performance of critical Power Apps runtime scenarios involving service APIs and client request patterns. Collaborated with multiple teams to develop full stack solutions that improved targeted scenario performance by 60%.Rapidly designed the frontend REST APIs for the Dynamics 365 home page which supported the global aggregation of application metadata from multiple Microsoft services through a common interface and caching layer. Responsible for large portions of the design and implementation of high-impact decisions related to horizontal scalability, high-availability, disaster recovery, geopolitical-compliance, authorization, authentication, and data storage patterns.
Software Engineer
Founding member of the Power Apps API service. Served as one of two web API developers who designed and built the initial launch to preview customers. Delivered early service proposals under tight deadlines to enable product prototype testing and evaluation with consumers.Contributed improvements and bug fixes to an internal master-master database replication solution intended to provide configurable, rapid, highly-available global replication of Azure Storage data records.
Software Development Engineer In Test (Sdet)
