Volunteer Attract is a small, bootstrapped startup from the Computer Systems Group focusing on the volunteer community by providing software to help recruit, manage, and recognize volunteers.Responsibilities in this role: • Designed and developed the volunteer recognition system utilized in the 2015 Pan Am Games to recognize the skills and time of over 55,000 volunteers; system is still used today by non-profits across Ontario to produce certificates for volunteers• Led creation of a national searching system integrating over 200 volunteer centres across Canada running 20 different systems o Flagship system is deployed with organizations in eight provinces and two territories across Canada o volunteerwr.ca, deployed in 2005, increased the number of people accessing volunteer positions in the Waterloo region by 500%• Oversees day-to-day operations while maintaining and cultivating relationships with partner organizations; prepares budgets, development plans, and presentation of future growth• Leads development team on new development in PHP, JSON, CSS, and SQL Anywhere and sets priority of development path• Manages partnerships at national, provincial, and local levels

This small group of 10 to 12 staff works with a group of 5 to 8 graduate students and is funded through research grants and corporate partners.Responsibilities in this role:• Developer on the WIDE tool kit used in over 70 different projects ranging from environmental stewardship to document management for the United Nations University• Lead developer and project manager on the Study Space Project working with professors around the world on developing water curriculum with training support and deployment teams in four developing countries• Facilitation of information-sharing meetings and demonstrations of different research teams to explore key issues and challenges while finding resolutions to keep projects on time and on budget• Led a team to create a community hub on collecting local poverty reduction data that can be used as indicators and dashboards for local organizations and governments
