After spending most of my childhood and early twenties in the world of competitive tennis, I was called to work at World Vision. I immediately received a wake-up call that changed profoundly, as my heart broke to see the reality of the world's poorest and most vulnerable people. From that time on, I've felt compelled to use my skills, knowledge, and the training and support I've received from some brilliantly wonderful people to serve the needs of the overlooked and underprivileged.My life's experience has blessed me with a collection of skills that are especially helpful in leadership, teamwork, and creativity. Foremost is my ability to form genuine, collaborative relationships with those I work alongside, I work for, and whom I lead. I am compelled to treat everyone around me with respect and in a way raises their dignity while encouraging them to be the best they can be. I also have a penchant for innovation and creative problem solving. My first question when I encounter a new process is, "How can this be done better?"I am also invigorated by the opportunity to rise to challenges. This probably comes from my years in competitive sports, but I've seen it play out with great results in my career in the non-profit sector as well. Seeing a mountain before me fills me with motivation to reach the summit, and to encourage others to come along for the climb!I'm grateful to have been in the position to gain some technical prowess along the way, too. My education in Technical Communications taught me how to write and edit with precision, just as my experience in Graphic & Web Design has taught me how to bring a creative vision into reality with words and with images.Above all, I have found that my life's pursuit of following Jesus Christ has provided me a grounding that has helped me maintain my focus: to lead as a servant, to see the unique value of every person, and to pursue love as the means by which our world can be made into a better place.
